Security and Data Protection
A wide range of measures is used to ensure the security of
the NAS Insurance Brokers system hardware and software and to
minimise the potential for any down-time. These measures include:
- The NAS Insurance Brokers systems operate from a centrally
managed and maintained data centre, located at WestNet in
Perth. The data centre is fully secured by access card technology.
- The NAS Insurance Brokers server rack is secured with individual
keys, access to which is available only to personnel authorised
by NAS Insurance Brokers.
- An automated server monitoring system checks each server
every minute to establish its operational status. If there
are any problems, alerts are generated automatically to allow
action to be taken by a member of the NAS Insurance Brokers
Technical Support team.
- A Checkpoint Firewall-1 firewall system provides a secure
environment for NAS Insurance Brokers servers, blocking any
unauthorised external access to the NAS Insurance Brokers
databases or storage servers.
- Virus detection software is installed and updated regularly
to minimise the risk of infection.
- All server machines are backed up daily to tape and backup
tapes are stored off-site.
- All servers are connected to an uninterruptible power supply
(UPS) and diesel backup generator, allowing the servers to
continue operating during a power failure of up to 2 days.
- All of NAS Insurance Brokers's adviser systems are protected
by Secure Socket Technology (SSL). SSL provides 128-bit data
encryption between adviser systems and the NAS Insurance Brokers
servers, ensuring that no-one is able to read advisers' data
while it is in transit through the Internet.
